Auxiliary Band

The Brass Wanganui Auxiliary Band exists to help develop players of the future.
Over the years, it has been a very important pool of talent, enabling young and less experienced players to build up skills and confidence before moving into the senior band.

Currently in 2009, the Musical Director is Mark Keelty, himself a product of the Auxiliary Band. Mark has served Brass Wanganui over many years and currently has a group of 20 plus players, many of whom will progress into the senior band.
Mark works closely with both Musical Director Bruce Jellyman and Maestro Kevin Jarrett in training and developing performance skills to the required standard.
The Band performs locally during the year and also competes in the annual Central Districts Brass Band competitions.

Under Bruce and Kevin's leadership, players follow a carefully planned individual learning progression which also enables them to gain formal music qualifications during the training programme.

This Auxiliary Band is also strongly supported by a number of older experienced players who assist both by playing during rehearsals and also by acting as individual tutors under Bruce and Kevin's direction.

The Band rehearses every Monday night, 6:00-8:00 pm in the Bandroom beside the Wanganui City Library.

If you are interested in joining this group, either as a learner or assisting player we would be very happy to hear from you.
